Davis Applied Technology College (formerly Davis Area Vocational Center) was created by an act of the 1978 Utah State Legislature to serve the residents of Davis and Morgan Counties with technical training. In June 2001, a special session of the Legislature passed House Bill 1003 creating the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT), the state’s 10th newest institution of higher education. There are eight applied technology campuses: Bridgerland, Davis, Dixie, Mountainland, Ogden-Weber, Tooele, Southwest, and Uintah Basin.
Why Choose DATC
At DATC, you can take classes to fit your schedule. The day and time you attend is flexible and can be designed to meet your needs. Many of our classrooms and labs are open from 7:40 am to 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. If you need a class schedule to fit with your work schedule, we can typically accommodate your needs.
Most courses offered at DATC are self-paced, which means you can choose how quickly you move through the course material. If you already know the information or have the skills required, you can complete the tests and finish the material quickly – you choose the pace. If the class material is new to you, then take the time you need to make sure you understand the information. The instructors are here to help you one on one.
Programs at DATC are hands-on, NOT lecture based. DATC emphasizes the skills required on the job. For example, by the third day of class in our Automotive or Diesel programs, students are in the lab turning wrenches. While some academic book work is necessary, DATC emphasizes the job skills required for success in the workplace.
DATC offers students the best value in education. We are a Technical College funded by the State of Utah. Our mission is to provide job training to the public at a low cost. Tuition at DATC is just $2.43 per hour (Tuition and Student Fees).

DATC provides the highest quality training in the area for several reasons: We are nationally accredited through the Council on Occupational Education. Our instructors have extensive industry work experience, which enables them to design curriculum that is both student-centered and job relevant. Our program instructors consult Employer Advisory teams to ensure our training programs prepare students for employment!
Students will take a class in resume writing, interviewing and other job seeking skills to prepare them in finding the best job possible. DATC instructors work with employers frequently and continuously receive requests seeking students for work. The result is a placement rate over 97% in most programs. There is also an online job board available with jobs posted by employers for DATC students.
